Ralf Rangnick: RB Leipzig want to beat Bayern Munich and top the Bundesliga

RB Leipzig will travel to the Allianz Arena to beat Bayern Munich and go into the Bundesliga winter break as Herbstmeister.

After 15 games of the Bundesliga season newly promoted Leipzig are level on 36 points with Bayern having lost only one game and will face the Bavarian giants for the time ever in the league's history.

Speaking on Sky on Sunday evening, the club's sporting director Ralf Rangnick promised Bayern a fight.

"We can't help but play for a win," he said. "We travel to Munich to get three points, if that's possible. You can't tackle the task with more ambition."

Speaking to Sport1, Rangnick added: "We can't change our style of play, that's how much it is in our players. Sure, we prepare every match, and Bayern won't adjust to us but go into with their Mia san Mia attitude. Our football is about chasing the ball and winning it.

"If we want to take points with it at Munich we have to give it our all. It's an absolute highlight for us, with Europe-wide attention. We can only win, even if we lose."

On Saturday, after Leipzig bounced back from their 1-0 defeat at Ingolstadt with a 2-0 win against Hertha Berlin, coach Ralph Hasenhuttl promised that the worldwide audience will be in for a pre-Christmas treat.

He said: "It's a match which electrifies all of Germany and which will thrill people cross-border."

In Bundesliga history only nine teams picked up more points than Bayern and Leipzig after 15 match days, and eight of them went on to win the league.

Bayer Leverkusen, the exception from the rule, still qualified for Champions League when they finished third in the 2013-14 season. The club, that year, were on 37 points, but already four behind then-leaders Bayern Munich on 41 points.

Meanwhile, Hasenhuttl's impressive feat in leading Leipzig to the upper echelon of the Bundesliga has caught the eye of Bayern president Uli Hoeness, who said the Austrian is "one of three candidates" they could consider to manage them in the future.
