Hoffenheim striker Sandro Wagner: I'm Germany's best attacker by a mile

Hoffenheim's Sandro Wagner says he should be Germany's first-choice striker, telling Bild he believes he is the best option "by a mile." 

Wagner, 29, was part of the side that won the European Under-21 Championship in 2009 along with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira and Mats Hummels, but he had struggled to reach his potential.

He had reached a dead end at Hertha Berlin in 2014-15 when he moved to newly promoted Darmstadt, where he scored 14 Bundesliga goals to help the club avoid relegation, and made the move to Hoffenheim in the summer.

He has scored seven goals in 13 games so far this season and he hopes to now be rewarded with a call up to the senior Germany national side.

"In my eyes, I've been the best German attacker by a mile for a while now," Wagner said.

Sandro Wagner has been in fine form for Hoffenheim.

No other German attacker has scored more goals in 2016, with Germany international Mario Gomez netting 13 for Besiktas and three for Wolfsburg since his summer switch.

Should Joachim Low decide to invite Wagner to the national team for the next round of internationals in March, he would become the oldest outfield player to debut under the 2014 World Cup-winning coach.
