RB Leipzig will be hard to dislodge from top of Bundesliga - Hasenhuttl

RB Leipzig coach Ralph Hasenhuttl says his side are going to be hard to dislodge from the top of the Bundesliga this season.

The league newcomers opened up a three-point lead at the top of the standings ahead of Bayern Munich at the weekend, while they can move six points clear on Friday night when they travel to Freiburg.

They have yet to lose a game since being promoted to the Bundesliga, setting a new league record for a newcomer in the process, and the hype is mounting.

Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel said last weekend that he can see them doing a Leicester by replicating the shock caused by the Premier League champions last season.

Hasenhuttl stopped short of agreeing, albeit while acknowledging his team are in excellent shape.

"If we keep playing this way and continue to do what we work on, and if we can maintain this hunger, then we are going to be hard to beat,'' he told Sport Bild magazine.

"Our only objective is to find solutions to get us through the challenges we face each day.

"Nobody has gifted us our league position. Everybody here believes in what we are doing.''

Indeed, Hasenhuttl believes his side can get even better, insisting they have not yet peaked.

"We've got to get better and keep making even more progress,'' he said. "The higher we are, the more the focus will be on us and that means our opponents are going to try even harder against us.''

Leipzig may therefore respond by strengthening their side in the winter, although Hasenhuttl says there is "nothing planned right now," but added that they are "nevertheless keeping our eyes open.''

"Quality players are always welcome here with open arms,'' he added.
