Bayern Munich see off Augsburg in Bundesliga; Schalke, Dortmund draw

Bayern Munich beat Augsburg for the second time in four days with Robert Lewandowski on target twice in another 3-1 win.

Carlo Ancelotti's men knocked their Bavarian rivals out of the DFB Pokal on Wednesday and they needed little over 45 minutes to see them off once again with Lewandowski and Arjen Robben exchanging goals and assists.

Koo Ja-Cheol grabbed a consolation for Augsburg in the second half, but that was all it was as Bayern beat their opponents comfortably.

The victory for reigning champions Bayern means they remain two points clear of second-placed RB Leipzig at the top of the table

Schalke extended their unbeaten run to four games and frustrated their local rivals Borussia Dortmund in a goalless draw at the Westfalenstadion.

The Royal Blues enjoyed the better of the first half before defending resolutely in the second 45 minutes as Thomas Tuchel's men tried harder to find a winner.

The draw helped Schalke continue their resurgence, having lost their first five games of the season, and lifted Dortmund to fifth, eight points adrift of leaders Bayern.

RB Leipzig kept up their pursuit of Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga by making it nine games unbeaten in their first top-flight season with a 2-0 win at Darmstadt.

Marcel Sabitzer gave Ralph Hasenhuttl's men the lead in the 57th minute, turning in Timo Werner's cross, and he struck again with eight minutes left on the clock, turning in Oliver Burke's delivery.

Leipzig are now just one game short of equalling the Bundesliga record for the most games unbeaten at the start of a campaign by a promoted side.

Bayer Leverkusen came from behind to heap more misery on Wolfsburg with a 2-1 win at the Volkswagen Arena.

Maximilian Arnold gave Wolfsburg the lead just before half-time, but a much-improved Leverkusen in the second half took all three points with goals from Admir Mehmedi and Tin Jedvaj.

Their win lifts the pressure off their coach Roger Schmidt while at the same time probably convincing Wolfsburg to look elsewhere for their new permanent coach, with Valerien Ismael failing to impress in his two league games in charge and the Wolves still stuck inside the bottom three.

Werder Bremen coach Alexander Nouri lost his unbeaten home record on Saturday as Freiburg ran out 3-1 winners at the Weserstadion.

Maximilian Philipp gave Freiburg the lead just shy of the half-hour mark when he dribbled through the Bremen defence before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

Vincenzo Grifo doubled the visitors' advantage from the penalty spot 10 minutes later after Karim Guede had been fouled by Ousman Manneh inside the area.

The hosts pulled a goal back through Santiago Garcia midway through the second half, but their joy was short-lived as Amir Abrashi restored Freiburg's two-goal lead with 15 minutes remaining.

Ingolstadt are still waiting for their first win of the Bundesliga season after going down 2-0 at Mainz.

Lukas Hinterseer went close to giving Ingolstadt the lead in the 20th minute when his volley struck the crossbar, but despite a few efforts from Dario Lezcano the visitors could not muster much else.

Yunus Malli opened the scoring for Mainz from the penalty spot five minutes into the second half after Moritz Hartmann was adjudged to have brought down Daniel Brosinski inside the penalty area.

Levin Oztunali added a second goal five minutes from time before a red card for Max Christiansen compounded Ingolstadt's woes.
