Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez granted leave by Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen have granted striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez special leave to visit his girlfriend, who is recovering after a health scare.

Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt confirmed to German tabloid Bild that Mexico international Hernandez, 28, had been granted leave during the international break to travel to Spain and be reunited with his girlfriend following her release from hospital after being treated for a collapsed lung.

"Chicha has an individual training schedule," Schmidt said. "It makes sense that he's not here this week, because of his private situation and also so he can rest after his broken hand. He's not joining the national team."

Last week, the striker said his girlfriend's scare was "a bit dangerous," adding: "She's better now, but is not allowed to fly."

Hernandez was on target for Leverkusen as they beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 on Saturday, meaning he has scored five goals in seven days.

He was not included in the Mexico squad for the forthcoming friendlies against New Zealand and Panama.
