Leverkusen defeat Fiorentina as German, Italian sides meet in friendlies

Bayer Leverkusen eased to a 3-1 win over Fiorentina in a friendly on Thursday.

Levin Oztunali got behind the defence to open the scoring in the eighth minute, while Admir Mehmedi tapped in a Wendell cross after the hour mark to provide the German club with a 2-0 lead.

Nikola Kalinic scored for Fiorentina on the counter-attack before Kevin Kampl scored for Leverkusen at the near to put the result beyond doubt.

The game was one of a few between German and Italian sides on Thursday.

Goals from Franco Di Santo and Bernhard Tekpetey bookended Schalke's 2-1 win over Bologna, either side of Franco Brienza goal for the Serie A club.

Leipzig and Torino played to a goalless draw, while Mainz fell 2-0 to Serie B's Novara, and Augsburg rolled to a 4-0 win over third-tier Sudtirol.

Meanwhile, Cologne beat La Liga's Eibar 2-0 with goals from Filip Mladenovic and Dominic Maroh, while Ricardo Rodriguez's late goal gave Wolfsburg a win over Swedish club Malmo.

Boukari Drame, Giulio Migliaccio and Andrea Petagna scored to help Atalanta beat Lega Pro's Renate, while Riccardo Meggiorini and Roberto Inglese were on target as Chievo Verona beat Parma 2-0.

Finally, Ruben Castro converted a hat trick as Real Betis won 3-2 over Sporting Lisbon in Portugal.
