Bayern: Bastian Schweinsteiger could take non-playing role in future

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said he can envisage the return of Bastian Schweinsteiger to Bayern Munich in a non-playing role.

Schweinsteiger, who was 32 on Monday, is reportedly training with Manchester United's under-23 squad after being told by Jose Mourinho that he has no future at the club.

"If he was ever wishes to return in a different role, then we will talk it over with him," CEO Rummenigge told Sport Bild.

Bayern captain Phillip Lahm added: "It is important to implement deserving players. Someone like him is predestined to work for the club. He knows everyone and everything."

Schweinsteiger joined Bayern's youth ranks in 1999 and went on to make 500 appearances, winning eight Bundesliga titles and the 2013 Champions League.

The former Germany captain, who retired from international football this month, joined United in 2015 and made 21 starts under former Bayern coach Louis van Gaal in his first season.
