Fabian Johnson plays down Gladbach win over Bayern Munich

Fabian Johnson has said Borussia Monchengladbach's 3-1 defeat of Bayern Munich was "not all that sensational" given his side's previous success over the champions.

United States international Johnson has been in fine form in recent weeks and put in another impressive showing in the defeat of Bayern, playing a key role in Oscar Wendt's opener and then scoring his side's third goal.

The match marked Bayern's first Bundesliga defeat of the season but Johnson highlighted the fact Gladbach had picked up four points from their two meetings with Pep Guardiola's men last season.

Johnson acknowledged that his side had been "rather lucky" to avoid going behind in the first half but told reporters: "We also beat Bayern last season, and that's why it's not all that sensational."

Club captain Granit Xhaka added: "To me our victory is not a miracle. Bayern also drink from the same well, and they all have two arms and two legs too."

Gladbach's only defeat since Andre Schubert took charge on Sept. 21 came in their home meeting with Manchester City in the Champions League.

They take on City again at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday knowing a victory would see them take third place in Group D, and Johnson is hopeful that they can secure a positive result in England.

"It would be an exaggeration to say that we are favourites, but we've soaked up a lot of confidence and want to take our chance," Johnson, whose performances on the wing have seen Thorgan Hazard reduced a bench role, said.

City won 2-1 at Borussia Park on Sept. 30 thanks to a late penalty from Sergio Aguero, who has been ruled out of Tuesday's game through injury.
