Borussia Dortmund's Aubameyang welcomes Bayern Munich challenge

Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says Bayern Munich are the best team in Europe right now but he has not given up hope of challenging them for the Bundesliga title.

Dortmund moved to within five points of leaders Bayern after Pep Guardiola's side dropped their first points of the season in a 0-0 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday.

Bayern had previously won their first 10 league matches, a run that included a 5-1 hammering of Dortmund at the beginning of October.

Aubameyang, 26, wants Dortmund to win the Europa League this season and to push Bayern as hard as possible in the Bundesliga.

The Gabonese forward admits the latter goal will be difficult though as he considers the defending German champions to be the most impressive team in European football.

"At the moment they're the toughest," he told French radio station RMC.

"They really are in great form. They gave us a beating but I think we didn't show up in that game.

"What's essential is to keep the pace and if they make a mistake we'll try to catch them.

"The other goal is the Europa League with the aim of going all the way. To win that title would be great."

Aubameyang is enjoying an incredible start to the season at Dortmund, drawing interest from Barcelona after scoring 20 goals in all competitions for Thomas Tuchel's side.

Earlier in his career Aubameyang's detractors said he had nothing but pace and was clumsy in front of goal.

But the former Saint-Etienne striker is pleased to be demonstrating that his finishing can be every bit as deadly as his speed.

"It was more a question of confidence," he said. "When you're confident, things come off for you.

"Now I've succeeded in combining the two and I'm very happy to shut a few people up a little bit."
