Timothy Chandler should reconsider U.S. future - Eintracht Frankfurt coach

Timothy Chandler should reconsider playing for the United States, Eintracht Frankfurt coach Armin Veh says, as his international duties limit his potential for his Bundesliga club.

The 25-year-old defender is set to return to team training at Frankfurt on Thursday, following his appearances for the U.S. at the CONCACAF Gold Cup last month.

Chandler will be the last player to return to the Bundesliga club, and his new coach does not plan on playing him straight away once the season kicks off with a cup match this weekend.

"He has to wait in line first," Veh, who returned to Frankfurt this summer after one year away from the club, told reporters on Wednesday.

U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann started Chandler in three of the Americans' six games at the Gold Cup but left him on the bench during their semifinal loss to Jamaica.

Last season under coach Thomas Schaaf, Chandler won his first start for Frankfurt on the fourth matchday after playing at the World Cup in Brazil.

By the end of the season he had started 25 games and made a further four appearances as a substitute.

But Veh believes the summer trips with the United States harm the defender's club career.

"I understand that he wants to play there. But it doesn't help me and Eintracht," he said, according to Bild. "He needs to ask himself what he wants."

Other U.S. internationals playing in Germany, including Hertha Berlin's John Anthony Brooks and Gladbach's Fabian Johnson, resumed training with their respective clubs last week.
