Dortmund secure Europa League while Freiburg and Paderborn are relegated

Jurgen Klopp's final Bundesliga game in charge of Borussia Dortmund ended with BVB securing Europa League qualification, while Freiburg and Paderborn were relegated on a dramatic final day of the season.

Klopp, who will leave Dortmund at the end of the 2014-15 campaign, saw his side run out 3-2 winners over Werder Bremen.

Their upcoming DFB-Pokal final appearance meant seventh was enough to claim a spot in next season's Europa League -- a remarkable feat considering the club was bottom of the table in January.

Shinji Kagawa and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struck in quick succession inside the opening 17 minutes to put Dortmund on their way to victory. Levin Oztunali pulled a goal back for Bremen, but Henrikh Mkhitaryan restored the hosts' two-goal advantage before the interval.

A Theodor Gebre Selassie goal made things interesting late on, but Bremen could not find an equaliser.

At the other end of the table, six teams went into matchday 34 looking to avoid the drop. Hamburg started the day in 17th position, but a second-half volley from Ivica Olic and a header Soloban Rajkovic from were enough to see off Schalke in a 2-0 home victory and see them finish 16th and into the Bundesliga relegation playoffs.

Defeat cost Schalke their fifth place in the final Bundesliga standings, meaning they may now need to get through a qualifying round for the group stage of next season's Europa League.

Paderborn -- bottom at the start of play -- hosted fellow strugglers Stuttgart and went ahead through Mirko Vucinovic, but a second-half equaliser from Daniel Divadi and a Daniel Ginczek strike saw the visitors claim safety with a 2-1 win to send Paderborn down.

Hannover had fears of the drop themselves before kick-off, but ensured their safety by consigning Freiburg to relegation with a 2-1 win.

Hiroshi Kiyotake put Freiburg in front early on and a late own goal from Pavel Krmas secured their top-flight status, while a late Nils Petersen consolation was not enough to prevent Christian Streich's Freiburg from relegation.

Results among their fellow strugglers meant Hertha Berlin also survived despite losing 2-1 at Hoffenheim, whose goals came from Anthony Modeste and Roberto Firmino. Roy Beerens scored for Hertha.

Meanwhile, champions Bayern Munich reversed their recent poor form to overcome Mainz 2-0 and lift the trophy in front of their Allianz Arena fans.

A Robert Lewandowski penalty and Bastian Schweinsteiger goal gave Pep Guardiola's men control of the game in front of 75,000 suppporters, before they were handed the league trophy and the party in Munich began.

Augsburg clinched a Europa League place and fifth position by beating third-placed Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 with goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tim Matavz and Sascha Molders. Raffael had given Gladbach a first-half lead before they were overwhelmed after the break.

Wolfsburg finished as runners-up to Bayern as they wrapped up their campaign with a 2-2 draw at Cologne, while Eintracht Frankfurt ended the season with a 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen.
