Cologne ban 'Boyz' fan group members after pitch invasion

Cologne have banned a group of around 40 fans from attending matches in future as a consequence of a pitch invasion at the end of Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Bundesliga club have identified the trouble makers, who all belong to the same fan club, and voided their season tickets while issuing "indefinite" stadium bans.

A statement posted on Cologne's website read: "Cologne justifies these drastic measures with the repeated misbehaviour of the 'Boyz' fan group, which is damaging to the club.

"Leading members of the fan group were involved both in the pitch invasion at the end of the match as well as in huge, recognisably organised use of illegal pyrotechnic material."

Cologne can expect to be fined by the German FA and warned for failing to control their fans and they have promised to seek damages from those individuals who ruined the Rhineland derby at Borussia Park.

"As has happened many times in the past, we make it explicit that the culprits will be made to account for any club punishments on the part of the DFB and any consequential costs," the club said.

"We are dealing in the interests of the overwhelming majority of our members and fans. We are not going to sit around a table with criminals."
