Bundesliga: Bayern Munich hit four, Dortmund lose away at Hertha Berlin

Bayern Munich underlined their superiority in the Bundesliga with a 4-0 win at third-placed Augsburg on Saturday.

Medhi Benatia put the Bavarians ahead and three more goals followed in the space of just 11 minutes with Arjen Robben (2) and Robert Lewandowski ensuring Pep Guardiola's men moved 10 points clear of Wolfsburg -- who play on Sunday -- at the top.

Augsburg had more than held their own for the first 45 minutes, but had to admit they, like the rest of the Bundesliga, were inferior to Bayern in the second half.

Hertha Berlin sent Borussia Dortmund tumbling to their ninth defeat of the season with a 1-0 win at the Olympiastadion.

Julian Schieber's goal against his former club was enough to earn Jos Luhukay's men all three points and lift them three clear of their opponents, who slip inside the bottom three once again.

Jurgen Klopp's Dortmund, who will be one of the seeds in the draw for the last 16 of the Champions League on Monday, find themselves thrust further into a relegation battle with 14 points from 15 games this season.

Schalke suffered their first home defeat under Roberto Di Matteo as Cologne delivered a tactical masterclass to come away with a precious 2-1 win.

After frustrating their hosts in the first half, Cologne showed more adventure to snatch the points in the second, with Anthony Ujah giving them the lead and Matthias Lehmann scoring their second from the penalty spot.

Schalke, tired after a draining Champions League clash with Maribor in midweek, pulled a goal back through Leroy Sane's first Bundesliga strike five minutes from time, but they could not find an equaliser.

Werder Bremen and Hannover shared six goals at the Weserstadion on Saturday in a northern Germany derby which ended 3-3.

Lars Stindl gave visiting Hannover the lead in the 12th minute, but a Zlatko Junuzovic free-kick levelled matters before the break.

Melvyn Lorenzen scored his first professional goal to put Bremen in front, but two goals in as many minutes from Joselu turned the game on its head before teenager Davie Selke grabbed a late equaliser to salvage a 3-3 draw for the home side.

Freiburg and Hamburg remain in the midst of a Bundesliga relegation battle after sharing a 0-0 draw at the Dreisamstadion.

Freiburg paid the price for missing an early penalty through Vladimir Darida in the second minute as they were held at home.

Hamburg's coach Josef Zinnbauer said before the game that he would be happy with a draw since that would keep his team ahead of their hosts -- and that is exactly what he got with his team showing little in attack.

The Bundesliga's two most out-of-form teams played out a 1-1 draw in the late game as Filip Kostic salvaged Stuttgart a point at Mainz.

Johannes Geis' free-kick put the hosts in front, just reward for a dominant performance, but it was still not enough to earn them their first win since mid-October.

A deflected cross from Kostic found its way in to save Huub Stevens from a second straight defeat in charge of the Swabians, who nevertheless remained rooted to the foot of the Bundesliga.
