Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer praised for Gladbach display

Manuel Neuer has received widespread praise for his man-of-the-match performance against Borussia Monchengladbach as the Bayern Munich goalkeeper helped to secure his side a goalless Bundesliga draw on Sunday.

Neuer, 27, last conceded a goal in the league at the Veltins Arena in late August, when Benedikt Howedes put the ball over the line to make it 1-1 for Schalke. Ever since then the Bayern keeper has been unbeaten in 658 minutes of football.

On Sunday, the Germany No. 1 denied Gladbach attackers Max Kruse, Andre Hahn, Patrick Herrmann and Raffael to keep his team in the game, and was praised for his display against the second-placed side.

"If it had not been for Neuer, Bayern would have conceded one or two goals today," Gladbach midfielder Christoph Kramer said. Winger Andre Hahn echoed the Germany international's words, saying: "We had three, four great chances in attack, but Manuel Neuer has once again given proof of his class."

Bayern Munich teammate Thomas Muller also knew who to thank for picking up the point at the Borussia Park, telling reporters: "Obviously Gladbach had two or three chances on the break, and that's what you'd expect.

"They're very well organised and their transitions are very quick, so you'll never prevent them getting a few shots away, but Manuel was extremely alert. Otherwise we played a very good game."

Coach Pep Guardiola was also proud of his team and the way Bayern played, and when asked about Neuer during the postgame news conference the Catalan coach said: "He's the best!"

Speaking on Sky later on Sunday, former Bayern and Germany keeper Oliver Kahn was next in line to congratulate his successor in the Munich goal, saying: "He is the world's best keeper. In many situation he did just what is expected of a world-class keeper.

"At his age I wasn't close to that. I only started to become a decent keeper at 30."
