Joe Zinnbauer: Hamburg cannot expect any miracles this season

Hamburg coach Joe Zinnbauer said not to "expect any miracles" after his side slipped to the bottom of the Bundesliga table.

Die Rothosen had hoped their luck would change following last week's appointment of Zinnbauer -- who replaced the sacked Mirko Slomka -- yet it is two games into his reign and the club are still waiting for their first goal of the season.

They have 24 minutes to avoid writing their names into the Bundesliga history books when they take on Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday, with Bochum having gone a record 474 minutes before opening their account in the 1979-80 campaign.

By the end of that season, Bochum had scored a total of 41 goals and finished in mid-table -- a position Hamburg would likely take come May.

Die Rothosen's 450-minute goal drought has been compounded by the fact that they are bottom of the Bundesliga, while they have yet to win away from home since October 2013.

"You should not expect any miracles," Zinnbauer told kicker after Wednesday's 1-0 defeat at Borussia Monchengladbach. "We invested a lot and had a good start, but the goal against us threw us off course."

Hamburg's lack of goals have not been helped by a string of injuries and a drop in form for striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

Die Rothosen CEO Didi Beiersdorfer told kicker that Lasogga, who scored 13 goals last season and was tipped by some to be included in Germany's World Cup squad, is still fighting to get back into top shape.

Hamburg captain Johan Djorou, however, is optimistic that the club will soon turn a corner.

"You could again see our new HSV identity [against Monchengladbach]," he told Hamburger Morgenpost. "The coach's philosophy does us good, and we will certainly climb the standings soon. But we do need to finally score a goal."
