Bundesliga to vote on goal-line tech

World Cup referee Dr Felix Brych insists goal-line technology is a welcome addition at next month's FIFA World Cup.

The German Football League [DFL] is considering the introduction of goal-line and video technology evidence in the Bundesliga, executive Andreas Rettig said on Tuesday.

Unlike the Premier League or World Cup, the German top flight does not use the technology. In March, the majority of the 36 clubs in Germany's upper two tiers voted against its introduction at a DFL members' meeting.

But a goal by Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels against Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal final that was incorrectly not given reignited the debate.

Bayern, who benefited from referee Florian Meyer's mistake in that game, put the issue back on the DFL agenda following widespread public calls for the use of goal-line technology.

In December, clubs will hold a new ballot on its introduction, and Rettig said the German Football League would also consider it in the near future.

"Fundamentally, the DFL is open to every technical innovation," he said in quotes reported by kicker. "With this issue, we prefer thinking big. Justice does not stop with the question of whether the ball has crossed the line -- 95 percent of the controversial decisions are of a different nature.

"We've been on it for a while now. If video evidence is practicable without changing the character of the game, it will be explicitly supported by us."
