Reus urged to become a BVB legend

Marco Reus can become a Borussia Dortmund legend, the club's CEO Aki Watzke has told kicker.

Dortmund are hopeful that they can persuade the forward to stay at the Westfalenstadion despite several clubs chasing his signature.

Reus, 25, will not play for Germany in the World Cup after injuring his ankle in the final pre-tournament friendly against Armenia earlier this month.

The injury has ruled the Dortmund-born player out for the first few weeks of next season, but the club hope he can return for the first Champions League match in mid-September.

Reus has been linked with a move to Barcelona -- talk rejected by his club -- or Manchester United, and reports have suggested that he could trigger a 35 million euros release clause in his contract and leave Dortmund next year.

He has so far been non-committal about his future, but Watzke told kicker: "Marco will play for Borussia Dortmund next season -- and nowhere else in the world. That's beyond question, and he sees it the same way."

He vowed to fight to keep the forward, whom he called "world class," and added: "We want to work with Marco in the long term. He identifies with the club to a high extent -- you realise that whenever you talk to him.

"It's also clear that he has alternatives. But he has a unique chance at Dortmund to get a status like Uwe Seeler at Hamburg or Franz Beckenbauer at Bayern. He can become a legend.

"I am aware that he wants to win titles, but we have always been really close in recent years.

"We can now offer much more money than in the past, but there will always be a club paying more -- the complete package is crucial.

"When you feel total attachment to an extremely stable club that wants to get to the top, when you have one of the best coaches in the world [Jurgen Klopp] and when you can become a legend... all those arguments have an importance next to a decent salary."
