Bayern Munich have appointed Michael Reschke as their new technical director, with the 56-year-old joining the Bundesliga champions from Bayer Leverkusen following an announcement on Thursday.

After 35 years at Leverkusen, Reschke, the mastermind behind many of Leverkusen's transfers, is set to join Die Roten this summer. At Leverkusen, he worked as the "squad manager" and has been described as "an excellent insider of the national and international football scene" by football paper kicker.

Reschke will support Bayern's sporting executive Matthias Sammer regarding the "contract player department, junior team, scouting and transfers" in the newly created position of technical director at the Allianz Arena.

"I am delighted about the reinforcement with Michael Reschke, whom I have known and rated highly for a long time," Sammer was quoted as saying on Bayern's official website. "It was my express wish that Bayern created this position and appointed Michael Reschke."

Kicker suggested that the "transfer" could be "like winning the lottery" for Bayern Munich. The paper praised Reschke for the transfers of Toni Kroos [in 2009], Lars Bender, Omer Toprak, Bernd Leno and most recently Emre Can, who has agreed a deal in principle to join Liverpool this summer for 12 million euros.
