Lewandowski keen to finish on a high

Robert Lewandowski wants to end his four years at Borussia Dortmund with a trophy, while he believes the club can advance past Real Madrid into the Champions League semifinals.

Lewandowski, 25, will miss the first leg of Dortmund’s quarterfinal with Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu next Wednesday after picking up a yellow card in the 2-1 defeat to Zenit St Petersburg earlier this month.

The booking caused controversy as the Poland international appeared to be pushed while trying to win a header, with his hand then touching the ball.

“I was really annoyed by that yellow card,” Lewandowski told Sport Bild. “And I very much hope that we will return from Madrid with a good result.”

On April 8, however, in the return leg at the Westfalenstadion, Lewandowski will return to face Los Blancos.

“I will be even more motivated [if Dortmund get a good result in Madrid], and I have had some good experiences with Real,” he said.

Last season, Lewandowski played a major role in helping to end Jose Mourinho’s hopes of winning La Decima for Madrid, scoring all four goals for Dortmund in their 4-1 semifinal first-leg victory.

“I think we are capable of advancing, even if Real are clear favourites and have shown top form,” he said.

Lewandowski will depart Dortmund for Bayern Munich this summer, and he watched on as his future teammates celebrated the club's 24th Bundesliga title on Tuesday.

The striker, though, insists he still has a job to finish at his current club before he moves on to Bayern.

“We still have chances to achieve something in every competition. My goal is to say goodbye with a title. We can annoy Bayern once more, but we need to be stable for that,” Lewandowski said.

While in the Bundesliga, Dortmund can only hope to finish second behind Bayern, they still have a chance of DFB-Pokal glory and host Wolfsburg in the semifinals on April 15.
