McIntyre: Salute to Cherundolo

When the 87-time U.S. international Cherundolo announced his retirement from professional football on Wednesday, it came as no surprise. Persistent knee problems had limited Cherundolo’s time on the pitch to a handful of minutes this season.

The 35-year old veteran of three World Cups will enter the Hannover 96 coaching staff as an assistant coach with the club’s under-23.

On Friday, Bild reported that Cherundolo will, in the summer, get a huge farewell by Hannover 96, the club he spent his entire professional career at.

"We will have this game, but we've only just entered the planning stage," Kind said, and Bild reported that the opponent will most likely be a Premier League club, with Chelsea, Liverpool or Tottenham specifically named as possible opponents.
