Arjen Robben extends Bayern deal

Arjen Robben has agreed a two-year contract extension with Bayern Munich, keeping him at the club until 2017.

Arjen Robben celebrates the third goal.
Arjen Robben joined Bayern Munich in 2009.

Robben, 30, who joined Bayern from Real Madrid in 2009, has been rewarded for his fine form over the past few years.

The Netherlands international played a key role in helping the Bavarian club to the Treble last season, including scoring the Champions League-winning goal in the final against Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund, while the side remain on course to repeat that achievement this term.

Bayern confirmed news of the deal, which is likely to be Robben’s last big contract, via their official Twitter account on Wednesday.

Robben told Bayern's official website: “I’m delighted we’ve now signed the new contract and I’ll continue pursuing trophies with FC Bayern. I’m now in my fifth season in Munich and there will be three more after this.

"There can be no better indication of how happy my family and I feel to be here and how much I enjoy playing for this club and with this team. I’m looking forward to the years ahead -- and to plenty more trophies with FC Bayern.”

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge added: “We’re extremely pleased Arjen has extended his contract with us until 2017. Arjen is a magnificent player. He’s proved his worth to FC Bayern and not just in the Champions League Final at Wembley. Arjen is a fundamentally important member of the team and will now remain so for the years to come.”

Robben has won two Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokals and once lifted the Champions League trophy since arriving in Bavaria in 2009.
