Franck Ribery out of Nurnberg clash

Philipp Lahm says Bayern Munich wasted too many great chances despite beating Eintracht Frankfurt 5-0.

Bayern Munich will be without the injured Franck Ribery for Saturday’s Bundesliga game at Nurnberg.

Schaaf: Bayern at their best

Ribery, 30, was forced to undergo a minor operation on Thursday to repair a burst blood vessel in his buttock, Bayern said in a statement released on their official website on Friday.

The France international is set to stay in hospital until Sunday, and will have to undergo a postoperative examination on Monday before the full extent of his injury can be determined.

“I hope he can train with us again as soon as possible,” Bayern coach Pep Guardiola told the club’s official website.

Ribery had only returned to action from injury last weekend, making his first appearance of 2014 during the Bavarians’ 5-0 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt.

League leaders Bayern visit 15th-placed Nurnberg on Saturday hoping to stretch their undefeated run in the Bundesliga to 45 games, as well as their winning streak to 12 matches.

Nurnberg, meanwhile, have won their first two games of 2014, having failed to win a single match during the first half of the season.
