Bayern calm over Arjen Robben deal

Bayern Munich are relaxed about Arjen Robben’s contract situation, with club president Uli Hoeness saying an agreement will be reached in the near future.

Schaaf: Bayern labour to win
• Dante: Bayern the greatest right now

Robben, 29, has been in blistering form for the European champions, contributing four goals in a week with efforts in the 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund and 3-1 victory at CSKA Moscow followed by a brace as Bayern beat Eintracht Braunschweig 2-0 at the weekend.

Unlike other seasons, the Netherlands international has managed to avoid injury during the first half of the season, playing 19 games in all competitions, and has been a key part of Bayern’s excellent start.

“I’m knocking on wood that he stays fit,” coach Pep Guardiola said on Saturday, with Robben now having contributed 17 goals and 11 assists in his last 26 games for the club.

Bayern sporting director Matthias Sammer believes the key has been a change in the former Chelsea and Real Madrid player’s attitude.

“He is a 100 percent professional,” Sammer told tz. “Arjen has found the right path between normality and being diligent and meticulous in training. I believe that in the past he was not doing that.”

However, Robben’s contract is due to expire in the summer of 2015 and the player told the media last week that it is “not true” that talks have begun over an extension, leading to media speculation over his future.

Hoeness, though, has told kicker: “In due time we will find a solution. It’s still one and half years away, that’s why I don’t understand all the fuss. Arjen knows what he has here and we know what we have in Arjen. He does not pressure us, and we don’t pressure him.”

For his part, Robben has indicated that he would the chance to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena, telling reporters on Saturday: “I feel pretty happy at the club.”
