Dortmund stunned, Bayern held

Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich failed to take full advantage of Borussia Dortmund's first defeat of the Bundesliga season when they drew 1-1 at the BayArena.

Borussia Dortmund show their disdain after suffering a 2-0 loss to Moenchengladbach.
Dortmund were left downcast after defeat at Monchengladbach.

Pep Guardiola's Bayern had appeared set to clinch another victory when Toni Kroos fired them in front after 29 minutes after Franck Ribery pulled the ball back, enabling him to rifle home. But the home side were level within a minute when Manuel Neuer parried a Sebastian Boenisch effort to Sidney Sam, who scored from close range.

• Schaaf: Bayern, Leverkusen share the spoils

Thomas Mueller headed a great chance over the bar as Bayern piled on the pressure, and the result means they are a point ahead of Dortmund, who are level on points with Leverkusen.

Borussia Monchengladbach extended their 100 percent home record and brought Borussia Dortmund's unbeaten record this season to a halt with a 2-0 win at the Borussia Park Stadion.

The foals weathered an 80-minute storm as Dortmund created numerous chances -- and then struck with a Max Kruse penalty after Mats Hummels was sent off and a Raffael goal earning the points.

Lucien Favre's hosts had goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to thank for keeping them in the game up to that point, while Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp will be concerned at his team’s failure to turn their chances into goals.

Yunus Malli's last-gasp equaliser earned Mainz a 2-2 draw with Hoffenheim and ended their four-game losing streak.

The writing appeared to be on the wall for Mainz when they fell two behind within 22 minutes, Kevin Volland and Roberto Firmino both netting their fifth goals of the season.

However, substitute Eric Choupo-Moting pulled a goal back and a stroke of luck at just the right moment, with the ball hitting Malli and going in, brought Mainz their point.

Eintracht Braunschweig stunned Wolfsburg at the VW-Arena as they earned their first win of the season, 2-0 at the home of their local rivals.

Karim Bellarabi and Domi Kumbela earned Braunschweig the sweetest of victories just 14 miles away from their own home and with a sizeable support their to witness an historic moment in the club's history. It was their first win in the Bundesliga for 28 years, lifting them off the foot of the table for at least 24 hours.

Stuttgart remained unbeaten under Thomas Schneider but missed the chance to move up to fourth in the Bundesliga after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Werder Bremen.

Martin Harnik scored against his former club to give Stuttgart a sixth-minute lead, but Nils Petersen levelled for the visitors, against the run of play, before the break. Stuttgart searched for a winner, but were forced to settle for a point, their 11th out of a possible 15 under Schneider.

An Adam Szalai brace and Kevin-Prince Boateng's third goal since joining Schalke in the summer enabled the Royal Blues to bring their Champions League form to the Bundesliga stage with a 4-1 win over 10-man Augsburg.

Sascha Molders gave the visitors the lead in the tenth minute -- but as soon as they lost Ragnar Klavan to a red card six minutes later there was only going to be one winner at the Veltins Arena.

Boateng scored the penalty that followed Klavan's dismissal before Hungarian forward Szalai struck twice, breaking Augsburg's resistance. Max Meyer completed the rout with his first Bundesliga goal four minutes from time as Schalke moved above their opponents in the table.
