Hamburg continue pursuit of Jelavic

Hamburg have not given up their hopes of signing Nikica Jelavic and are still considering a bid for the Everton striker, according to Kicker.

Everton manager David Moyes has faith that Nikica Jelavic will hit the goal trail again next season
Hamburg would be prepared to make room for Jelavic.

The German club, who have signed Jacques Zoua from FC Basel, want to add more depth to their attacking line and have renewed their interest in Jelavic.

"It would be great if that works out," sporting director Oliver Kreuzer told kicker at the weekend. "I think he is an exceptional player. He would fit in with us."

The German football magazine believes Hamburg will need to offer at least €6.5 million for Everton to consider selling the Croatia international.

With Hamburg also needing to cut annual salaries down to €40 million, the Bundesliga side will, however, need to offload a few fringe players first. "We need to say good bye to one or two players first to start negotiations," Kreuzer said.

At the weekend, Hamburg drew 1-1 with Inter Milan, with Mauro Incardi opening the scoring in Hamburg after only two minutes.

Early in the second half, Hamburg’s Latvian attacker Artjoms Rudnevs levelled the score, netting the first goal by one of the club's strikers in ten pre-season friendlies.

"This goal will give Rudi confidence," Hamburg coach Torsten Fink said after the game.

The Latvia international added: "I want to make the next step in my development during the upcoming season."

Five players, including Michael Mancienne, Robert Tesche, Gojko Kacar, Paul Scharner and Slobodan Rajkovic are currently not training with Hamburg’s first team and appear to be up for sale.

Kacar is the only player who has been targeted in the transfer window, with Rubin Kazan showing interest in the Serbian.
