Kiessling inks Leverkusen extension

Last season's Bundesliga top scorer Stefan Kiessling has put pen to paper on a new Bayern Leverkusen deal.

Kiessling has scored more goals than any other German in the Bundesliga this term
Stefan Kiessling has been at Bayer Leverkusen since 2006.

The striker extended his current contract for two more years and now is set to stay at the club until 2017.

The 25 goals Kiessling, 29, scored last season made him the Bundesliga leading scorer. Over the past two season, Kiessling has an impressive record of 41 goals in 68 games.

Wearing the 1.FC Nuremberg jersey, Kiessling debuted in the Bundesliga in April 2002 and made the switch to Leverkusen in 2006. He has so far played a total of 279 Bundesliga games and scored 111 goals.

“Stefan Kiessling has turned into a key player, a leader and a face of Bayern Leverkusen. He certainly is my 'super transfer',” the outgoing Leverkusen chief executive Wolfgang Holzhauser said.

“His development since 2006 has been phenomenal. I hope, he will now end his career at Leverkusen.”

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller added: “He is an extremely important part of the team but also for the whole club and is a role model for our fans.”

Kiessling himself said: “I am delighted. Bayer 04 is my club.”
