Carvajal hopes to return to Real

Bayer Leverkusen's Spanish right-back Dani Carvajal says he would like to return to Real Madrid next season, but he does not know yet if a summer move will happen.

Defender Carvajal, 21, came through Madrid's Fabrica youth system before joining Leverkusen for €5 million last summer. That deal included a €6.5 million buy-back clause, which Madrid are expected to trigger given his outstanding performances in Germany and Alvaro Arbeloa's mixed displays this season coupled with Michael Essien's likely return to Chelsea.

Carvajal told radio show El Larguero on Wednesday that he hoped to be back at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu soon.

"Nothing is certain yet, I am still a Bayer player," Carvajal said. "There is nothing done yet. But I hope I can wear a Madrid jersey again."

The Spanish Under-21 international, who should start for Spain in June's European Championships in Israel, revealed that Madrid need to make their move before the tournament begins.

"Nobody has been in touch with me yet about the possibility of returning [to Madrid]," Carvajal added. "At the moment I am scheduled to return there for pre-season on July 24. There are many instances of canteranos who left with a buy-back option but did not return. The date in the deal by which Madrid need to take their decision is around June 2."

Carvajal's performances during his year in Germany saw him named in the Bundesliga's best XI, as the Rhinelanders finished third in the table to qualify for next year's Champions League. He said it would be more difficult to break into the Madrid side but he was confident he could do so.

"The level at Bayer Leverkusen is not the same as at Madrid, to get minutes there is much harder," he said. "But I have faith in my ability and if Madrid do buy me back they will get the best of me if I get some playing time."

Carvajal's former youth-team colleague Jese Rodriguez, 20, who earlier this season complained about a lack of opportunities in Jose Mourinho's first team, could also be set for a similar move to Germany to gain experience there, Carvajal suggested.

"I do not know if that has been made official, but if you go over there Jose is a mature player too and could adapt perfectly," he said. "They received me very well, there are people who speak Spanish and help you with everything. Why not? He is a good player on and off the field."
