Nurnberg complete deal for Kanazaki

FC Nurnberg have announced the signing of former Nagoya Grampus winger Mu Kanazaki on a free transfer.

Kanazaki has signed a deal until 2014

Kanazaki, 23, has signed a contract until 2014 with an option to extend that deal for another two years.

The Japan international, capped five times by his country, joins compatriot Hiroshi Kiyotake - who has become a fans’ favourite and earned the nickname “Frankonian Kagawa” - at Nurnberg.

Kanazki’s contract at Nagoya Grampus ran out at the end of last year, and Nurnberg said they were delighted to have brought him to Germany.

“We've been considering a move to strengthen our attack for some time now,” general manager Martin Bader said.

He added that the club had been looking at the Japanese market for a while, explaining: “Kiyotake will help our new arrival settle in to life in Nurnberg as well as find his feet in the Bundesliga.

“Mu is capable of playing in any attacking position, which will improve the quality and variety of our attack.”

Kanazki said he was looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga, adding: “It's a league that’s well-supported in Japan. I am also looking forward to playing for a club that has such an amazing set of fans.”

The Kanazki deal may not be Nurnberg's last signing of the January window. Earlier this week, they were heavily linked with a move for 21-year old Rapid Vienna midfielder Muhammed Ildiz, with kicker reporting that a deal could be finalised soon.
