Frankfurt boss dismisses Rode exit

Bayern Munich are the latest team to join the race for highly-rated Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Sebastian Rode, according to Bild, but Frankfurt general manager Bruno Hubner has claimed he is “not for sale”.

Rode, 22, has been one of the main reasons for Frankfurt’s outstanding first half of the season and has become a fixture in the Germany Under-21 international side, while he has a contract which ends in 2014.

Bayern signed 22-year-old Jan Kirchhoff from Mainz recently, with sporting director Matthias Sammer  insisting that the club would be mainly focusing on home-grown young players, and reports suggest that defensive midfielder Rode is now in the sights of the Bundesliga leaders.

Hubner told Hessischer Rundfunk: "There is nothing to those rumours. There is no specific enquiry by Bayern", while the club's chief executive, Heribert Bruchhagen, told Bild he would fight for the player.

“Rode is sheer quality. He basically is involved in every Eintracht goal,” he said. “Therefore it is important to state that every offer, as high as it might be, bears no relation to the economical risk we take by getting relegated for the second time. Thus he might leave on a free in 2014.”

Rode, however, is only focused on his job for his team and would not comment on any links with Bayern.

“This does not impress me. I only concentrate on football,” he told Frankfurter Rundschau on Friday. “My agent is in close contact with Bruno Hubner - they have agreed that a good start to the second half of the season is more important right now. We are in no hurry, as there is a long way to go until 2014.”
