Subotic set to extend Dortmund contract

Highly-rated Borussia Dortmund centre-back Neven Subotic is set to prolong his contract in Dortmund, according to Bild.

Neven Subotic joined Dortmund from Mainz in 2008
Neven Subotic has been tracked by some of Europe's top sides.

Subotic, 24, currently has 18 months left on his contract and despite being linked to several European clubs including Barcelona and Manchester United could extend his stay in Dortmund for two more years.

According to Bild, a new contract is ready to sign and Dortmund general manager Michael Zorc told the paper: “We have been in talks with Neven. We have the intention to prolong Neven’s contract.”

The Serbian international arrived in Dortmund in 2008 and since has played 137 Bundesliga games for the club, scoring 12 goals.

Dortmund are currently also trying to convince Marcel Schmelzer and Kevin Grosskreutz to prolong their 2014 contracts and have not given up on Poland international Robert Lewandowski either.

Club executive Hans-Joachim Watzke told Bild: "As often as I am talking to Robert, I do not have the impression he wants to leave us. We will have to make decisions in this case at the end of the season. We may decide on economical factors.

"Would it be best to cash in a big fee? Or would it be even better to keep Lewandowski to ensure we are more likely to qualify for the Champions League with him in our side, as this would guarantee us big income?

"It's a decision we will have to take. It's our decision. It's not something to be decided by others."
