3 - 0

FT

  • 93'

The only tactic left for Terim next week is to set up like he did at the start of the game and go hell for leather, hope his team get the first goal and imbibe the crowd. Realistically, I don't think its going to happen.

  • 93'

FULL TIME - well, unless something ridiculous happens in Turkey, that is that. Real cruised through the second half after Gala abandoned their attacking intent of the opening 45. Sneijder disappointing, Drogba decent. Real with one foot in the semis.

  • 92'

Modric now booked for getting in the way of a Gala free kick. Again, needless.

  • 91'

Drogba's effort clips the wall and goes behind for a corner.

  • 90'

Ramos is booked and Gala have a free kick right on the edge of the box. Interesting. Ramos will miss the next match for kicking the ball away. Very silly.

  • 89'

Zan gets away with being too cute in his own box as Higuain robbed him of possession but used a hand in the process.

  • 88'

The game is petering out now. Gala look knackered.

  • 87'

Real couldn't have wished for an easier second half.

  • 86'

Higuain made it 3-0 to Real

  • 85'

    Di Maria replaced by Pepe.

  • 84'

Gala have to throw everything at Real now - this tie is over unless they get an away goal without conceding.

  • 83'

Riera comes off and Amrabat replaces him. Gala's final change.

  • 82'

This is only the second time that Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuain have all scored in the same Champions League game for Real Madrid (Mar 12 v CSKA). (Opta).

  • 81'

Inan cuts inside and works Lopez with a fierce shot that bounced in front of the keeper, who dealt with it well.

  • 80'

Ozil's race is run, Luka Modric replaces him.

  • 78'

    Bulut replaces Altintop.

  • 77'

Yilmaz gets booked for diving and will miss the second leg. Seems harsh.

  • 76'

Eboue stays down after that block. Not quite sure why. Gala's defending for the third goal was abysmal too.

  • 75'

Gala have simply shrunk after the break. They removed their attacking threat but still looked shaky in defence. They definitely need a goal now as Eboue blocks an acrobatic Ronaldo volley.

  • 74'

So simple and it had been coming for the last 20 minutes. Higuain steals a march on his man and nods Alonso's set piece into the corner of the net.

  • 73'

    GOAL Higuain nods a third!

  • 72'

Melo was booked for a clip on Di Maria prior to that Ozil chance.

  • 71'

Gala saved by the flag as Ozil had a shot from eight yards out. Muslera blocked.

  • 70'

Drogba gets into the area but his cross is blocked. That was a decent opening. Two in support too.

  • 69'

Good clearing header from Drogba as Ozil floats a cross in. Ronaldo was lurking.

  • 68'

Mourinho offers a double thumbs up to one of his players. Essien perhaps.

  • 67'

Real under no pressure at all here.

  • 66'

Better from Gala - basically, they need to get Drogba on the ball as often as possible. His cross is nodded clear by Varane before Riera's drilled centre is cleared by Ramos.

  • 65'

Real change: Benzema trudges off and Higuain replaces him.

  • 64'

Melo with a rare break forward - he works a shooting chance but slices wide from 30 yards out.

  • 63'

Coentrao loses his bearings as Real break again. Surely a third is imminent if they continue like this.

  • 61'

Quite a pedestrian feel to the game now. Gala need to inject something into it because Real are looking good - Alonso picks out Di Maria who should do better with his shot, which is right at Muslera from 12 yards.

  • 60'

Ronaldo has a go on goal but this one is right at Muslera.

  • 59'

Melo with a naughty late kick on Alonso. Ref says he'll be booked next time he transgresses.

  • 58'

Riera looks for Drogba inside the area but Ramos is across to cover.

  • 57'

Still goalless in tonight's other game - Malaga 0-0 Dortmund. Mark Lomas is covering that one.

  • 56'

A poor cross from Essien as Real break down the right side.

  • 55'

Drogba cutting a bit of a frustrated figure now, still playing off Yilmaz.

  • 54'

Nounkeu does well this time as he and Ronaldo go shoulder to shoulder inside the area. The defender comes away with the ball.

  • 53'

Gala are caught between two stools here - and looking shaky at both ends of the field. Real to win at a canter if it carries on like this.

  • 52'

Very little from Gala going forward in this half. All a bit low key so far since the restart.

  • 51'

Di Maria goes down under a little shove in the back from Nounkeu. Never enough for a pen but still a bit naughty.

  • 50'

Ronaldo pulls his sulky face as Ozil delays his ball too long and the pass finds him offside.

  • 48'

Gala's change seems to have surrendered more midfield possession leaving Alonso more time to pick out a pass. This one for Di Maria is just too strong.

  • 47'

Zan trips Ronaldo in his first involvement. Free kick 35 yards out which means exactly what you think it means. This one blocked by the wall though.

  • 46'

Sneijder has been replaced by defender Gokhan Zan as we begin again. A move to tighten things up.

  •

Madrid have only let slip a 2-0 half time lead once in the Champions League, away at Galatasaray in 2001. Karanka played that game.

  •

    Benzema steers home Real's second

  •

Surely Galatasaray need an away goal in this second half, but they can't afford to be so open again. Plenty for Terim to ponder.

  •

Dermot Corrigan @ The Bernabeu: Ronaldo & Benzema with goals, Galatasaray with some laudable attacking intent but pretty shambolic defending.

  • 45'

HALF TIME - Drogba shrugs off Ramos but can;t get a shot off before Varane covers as the half comes to an end. Symptomatic of Gala really, adventurous but without end product; Real have plenty and lead handsomely.

  • 44'

Gala's fans a little browbeaten after this first half. Wonder if Terim will persist with his open tactics in the second half?

  • 43'

What a chance for Eboue! Lopez makes a vital save as Drogba plays him in and though the former Arsenal man went for power from 15 yards out, the goalkeeper was equal to it.

  • 42'

He gets it up and over the wall but not enough dip to prevent it going over the bar and skimming the top of the net.

  • 41'

Ronaldo over the free kick - inevitably.

  • 40'

Nounkeu is booked for bringing down Benzema on the edge of the box. He'll miss the second leg.

  • 39'

Yilmaz gets a run on Varane but the pass isn't quite into his path. Then Real break but Benzema's pass for Ronaldo finds the Portuguese offside.

  • 38'

Karim Benzema has now scored 30 Champions League goals; Thierry Henry (50) is the only French player to net more (Trezeguet 29). (Opta)

  • 37'

Flares being lit in the away end too.

  • 36'

Looks like things are kicking off in the crowd a little bit. Plenty of Gala fans in the home ends and some Real fans taking exception to it.

  • 35'

Nounkeu shields the ball from Benzema, who then got a nick from Kaya. Looked painful. Gala get the free kick.

  • 34'

Drogba beats Ramos and crosses for Yilmaz who volleys wide. Tough chance but a chance nonetheless.

  • 33'

Benzema gets round the back and wins a Real corner.

  • 32'

Dermot Corrigan @ The Bernabeu: That would be both Mourinho's selection decisions combining with Essien cross and Benzema finish.

  • 31'

As well as Benzema took it, two Gala defenders went for the cross and missed it. Very poor defending. Drogba down after a grope with Ramos. Looked innocuous.

  • 30'

A simple finish after a wonderful slice of control. His first touch kills Essien's cross dead before he tucks it home via the near post. Good goal.

  • 29'

    GOAL Benzema makes it two!

  • 27'

Melo's header is blocked at point blank range. Inevitable claims of a hand.

  • 26'

Ronaldo bursts into the area as Ozil tries to release him from Gala's corner. Now Gala have another after Eboue charged down the right and saw his cross blocked.

  • 25'

They are certainly comfortable in possession though, trying to play the right way. Another shot from Drogba, a swerver, that Lopez parries away.

  • 24'

Gala have tightened a little now, sitting slightly deeper. A wise tactic I think.

  • 23'

Cristiano Ronaldo was directly involved in 22 goals in his last 18 appearances in the Champions League (18 goals, 4 assists). (Opta).

  • 22'

Real happy to let Gala have possession and they haven't been able to do much else than shoot from range, Drogba's opening aside.

  • 20'

Kaya broke up the break with a header and got a kick from Benzema for his trouble.

  • 19'

Short corners never work do they? Gala took one and ended up back on the half way line. Very poor.

  • 18'

Gala are so open at the back - this is not the way to play Real. Ramos's header finds Ronaldo and he offloads to Ozil but his powerful shot is well saved by Muslera.

  • 17'

Altintop this time with an effort on goal, wide again. Decent approach play from Gala though.

  • 16'

    Ronaldo celebrates his opener

  • 15'

Sneijder with a good shooting chance now but this one is wild and wide.

  • 14'

Dermot Corrigan @ The Bernabeu: Benzema, Ozil & Ronaldo linking well on break again. Galatasaray keep coming forward. Just as Madrid like.

  • 13'

Melo with an important tackle as again Ozil fed Ronaldo. Gala stretched at the back after Sneijder gave the ball away.

  • 12'

Ronaldo is now the top scorer in this year's UCL with nine.

  • 11'

Gala had started pretty well but it'll be interesting to see how they react now .. and they nearly equalised then! Drogba has a clear shooting chance after rolling Ramos and can't hit the target from the edge of the box.

  • 10'

Fantastic Real goal - Alonso to Ozil, he slides in Ronaldo and he clips a beautiful chip past Muslera and into the far corner. That is wonderful.

  • 9'

GOAL Ronaldo with a delightful finish!

  • 8'

Altintop, returning to his old stomping ground (well, he played a dozen matches for Real) turns in a decent looking cross but it is over the head of Drogba.

  • 7'

Ronaldo very quiet so far and Kaya is a lucky man after giving the ball away to Benzema - the defender gets a foot on the cross and Gala clear their lines.

  • 6'

Sneijder's ball for Yilmaz is under hit and Essien brings it away for Real.

  • 5'

Drogba beats Khedira in the air but brushes him with an arm. A quiet talking to from the ref. Drogba playing slightly deeper than usual.

  • 4'

Melo gets the ball from Eboue and has a pop from 30 yards but it was always rising. Plenty forward again.

  • 3'

Gala getting plenty of numbers forward in their first attack - five to be precise. Then Real counter and Benzema nods wide from Di Maria's cross.

  • 2'

Essien lines up at right back for Real in a flat back four. Di Maria has a shot blocked as he jinked inside.

  • 1'

    KICK OFF

  •

Plenty of Gala fans in the ground, plenty in the home section too. Will they see some Turkish delight tonight? *backs away from keyboard whistling*

  •

Galatasaray's record in Spain is W1 D4 L7. Their solitary victory came under Fatih Terim in the quarter finals of their 1999/2000 UEFA Cup campaign ? a 4-1 first-leg win at RCD Mallorca

  •

Should Real progress their semi final appearance will be a record 24th in the competition. Incidentally, it was 24 years ago since Gala's last appearance in the last four. Mourinho has lost just one of 16 home UCL games as Real manager though. Tough ask for the Turks.

  •

Still time for some pre-match reading. Here is Rob Train on how Real should go about taming Galatasaray and Cetin Cem Yilmaz on why it would be foolish to underestimate the Turkish side.

  •

The only other time these two have met in Europe's top competition was in 2001 - also at the last eight stage. Gala won the first leg 3-2 in Turkey but lost 3-0 in Madrid, Raul scoring twice.

  •

"He means everything to me," Drogba says of Mourinho. I wonder if the love in will end when Didier is throwing himself to the turf as his occasionally prone to doing?

  •

Galatasaray: Muslera, Eboue, Semih, Dany, Riera, Melo, Hamit, Selcuk, Sneijder, Burak, Drogba.

  •

Real Madrid: Lopez, Varane, Ramos, Coentrao, Khedira, Ozil, Alonso, Essien, Di Maria, Ronaldo, Benzema.

  •

Not many pundits give Galatasaray much of a chance but Sneijder is confident they can spring a surprise and says they'll be going out to win the game. They should have around 10,000 fans behind them too. Impressive.

  •

As well as Drogba - who refers to Mourinho as "daddy" - Wesley Sneijder is also coming up against his former manager, and returning to the club he spent a short stint with before joining Inter Milan in 2009.

  •

Jose Mourinho and Didier Drogba will be reunited when Galatasaray face Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter finals.
