  • Peter Crouch 29'
  • John Terry 85'

2 - 1

  • Andriy Shevchenko 74'
  • 94'

It's all over and England have won five out of five! Capello pumps his fist and the overwhelming emotion on the pitch seems to be one of relief. In truth England were pretty ordinary, but they got the win and that is the be all and end all at this level. Thanks for your company.

  • 93'

England'as fans get the ole's out after a spell of possession. A little premature lads...

  • 92'

Space for England now as the Ukraine push forward but Lamaprd fires a shot right at Pyatov.

  • 91'

Crikey what an effort! It was arcing towards the top corner but David James was across smartly to catch.

  • 90'

The Ukraine have a free kick about 40 yards out. Shevchenko standing over it,.

  • 90'

Kalinichenko is on for Slysur and four minutes will be added.

  • 88'

Lampard twists and turns well and finds Gerrard but his shot is blocked by Yarmash.

  • 87'

Phil Jagielka is on for Rio Ferdinand who is presumably still struggling with that back injury.

  • 86'

Beckham gets a yellow card for holding onto the ball when the Ukraine wanted to take a free kick.

  • 85'

There was more than a hint of offside about that one I have to say. Now, can England hold firm for the remaining three minutes plus stoppage time?

  • 84'

JT has made amends! The free kick was swung in, Barry won the header and Terry turns home from four yards out to give England the lead again.

  • 84'

    GOAL! Terry!

  • 83'

Beckham whips in a free kick but he didn't hit it well and Aliev clears. Nothing doing for England at the minute.

  • 82'

England can say that Ukraine scored with their only real chance but they haven't done enough in this second half to warrant winning the game. There is still time for both sides to find a winner though.

  • 80'

Crouch is making way for Shaun Wright-Phillips, who will hitherto be referred to as SWP.

  • 79'

A great ball in from Beckham is just a fraction in front of Rooney and Crouch and though Rooney rescued the ball and cut inside, he lost his bearings and couldn't find the target.

  • 78'

Shevchenko does well to bring down a long ball and find Tymoschuk but the following strike at goal is high and wide.

  • 77'

England have a corner though and Pyatov is far from convincing when he comes to claim but no white-shirted player was able to profit from it.

  • 76'

JT won't feel too great about that goal either. He gave away the free kick that led to the goal and was supposed to be marking Shevchenko too. Dear dear.

  • 75'

The ball actually went over David James head but it was travelling. The first sniff of goal the Ukraine have had in the game and they put it away.

  • 74'

The ball hit a crowd, fell to Shevchenko and he tucks the ball home with his right foot. A disaster for England.

  • 74'

    GOAL! Shevchenko!

  • 73'

Terry is penalised for a little tug on Shevchenko - a chance for the Ukraine to get men in the box.

  • 72'

Glenn Johnson is carded for holding onto the ball a tad too long when the Ukraine had a free kick.

  • 70'

Will England push for a decider or sit back to protect their one goal cushion?

  • 69'

England are still the most committed to attack - the Ukraine will have to throw caution to the wind at some stage one feels.

  • 68'

Yet another mistake from Ashley Cole offers Ukraine a decent chance. Again though, Aliev's pass is poor.

  • 67'

Aliev's flick for Yarmash is overhit and the crowd afford themselves an ironic cheer as the ball runs harmlessly out of play.

  • 66'

Rooney needs to chillax a little here. It was a wild tackle, full of intent. He's just fortunate he got a piece of the ball.

  • 65'

Oh dear Wayne Rooney. That was a nasty, nasty tackle. He got the ball first but then his studs flew into Aliev afterwards. He's lucky. Many referees would have sent him off for that.

  • 64'

More miscommunication between Cole and Barry but then Slysur brings down the Villa man and England have another free kick.

  • 63'

Beckham's effort is perfectly placed but a tad too high. He howled as it flashed over the bar.

  • 62'

Rooney is upended by Mykhalyk and Beckham has a free kick to tee up in a decent position on the edge of the box.

  • 61'

Another Ukraine change: Valiyaev is off and Nazarenko is coming on.

  • 60'

Johnson gives away another silly foul. He's had a very patchy game tonight.

  • 59'

Play is stopped after the Ukraine's 'keeper Pyatov collapsed after a challenge with Crouch.

  • 58'

Here comes Becks to a standing ovation. Lennon makes way.

  • 57'

John Terry is tasked with marking the man he played with at Chelsea. Shouldn't be too difficult should it?

  • 56'

In other news Newcastle have confirmed that Dennis Wise has left the club.

  • 55'

England respond with a substitution of their own and David Beckham is ready to come on.

  • 54'

Rooney looks for Cole down the left but Yarmash is in quickly to tackle. Now, Shevchenko is coming on, but it is Voronin who is making way. Bit strange that.

  • 53'

Shevchenko is stripped and ready to taste the action.

  • 52'

England looking good so far in this second half and still doing all the pressing. They are just looking to get Rooney on the ball as often as possible.

  • 51'

Crouch holds up play well as Gerrard lofted a ball into the area. Then Lennon crosses but Slysur clears.

  • 50'

Chigrinsky is down but no-one seems particularly bothered as England build down the right.

  • 49'

Rooney is right up for this! He beats three players then hits a low, fizzing shot that was only a yard wide of the post. Smashing stuff.

  • 48'

Voronin back heels in the direction of Milevsky but dodgy James is out to claim.

  • 47'

Rooney is denied a foul and then commits one himself in turn.

  • 46'

Rooney launches a ball straight to Voronin but Lampard helps him out of a hole.

  • 46'

    We begin again...

  • 45'

Lampard's corner is met by Crouch and though his header was meandering towards the post the clearance by Yarmash was a little dramatic. There's the half time whistle, and England just about deserve their lead.

  • 44'

One minute to add to the end of the first period as Lennon wins another England corner.

  • 43'

Rooney is running the show for England - he runs from left to right and feeds Lennon before hitting a ball into the path of Gerrard who shoots right at Pyatov.

  • 42'

A poor ball from Johnson again puts England under pressure. Then Gerrard hands possession back to the Ukraine in the final third but Aliev's cross finds no-one at the far post.

  • 41'

A spell of pressure for the Ukraine as the first half nears a conclusion. No penetration of note though.

  • 40'

Tymoschuk twice tried a shot; the first hit the wall, the second went high into the stands behind the goal.

  • 39'

Lampard hacks down Shevchuk but the referee decides to keep his cards in his pocket. Now Terry bumps into Milevsky and Ukraine have a free kick 40 yards out.

  • 38'

Now David James hits the ball straight out of play when trying to find Ashley Cole on the left. Very slack from the Pompey keeper.

  • 37'

Tymoschuk decides to have a punt from 40 yards and though it swerved a little David James made a right meal of it. It bounced in front of him and hit his shoulder. Dodgy.

  • 36'

A superb crossfield ball from Rooney finds Lennon - he nips to the byline and pulls the ball back for the onrushing Rooney and he blasts over. Great work from the Manchester United striker.

  • 35'

Johnson does well to pinch the ball from Milevsky before Slysur brings him down.

  • 34'

Gerrard gets space down the left after a good flick from Rooney, be feeds Barry but his first touch is awful.

  • 33'

The replay shows that there was contact between Barry and Aliev during that free kick a moment ago. A lucky boy is Bazza.

  • 31'

Barry gives away a free kick and then looks like he may have tugged Aliev as the ball came in. He's got to be careful having already seen yellow.

  • 30'

Well that should prove a nerve settler for England and perhaps they'll be more space to exploit as the Ukraine push forward for an equaliser.

  • 29'

A great strike from daddy long legs! Terry gets up well and Crouch volleys home from six yards and then, then my friends, he only goes and gets the ROBOT celebration out again! You can't buy class like that!

  • 29'

    GOAL! Crouch!

  • 28'

Lennon and Johnson are proving a pretty unconvincing duo so far as they make a hash of another spell of possession. Lennon recovers though to cross and England win a corner.

  • 27'

Now a bit of drama in England's back line as Cole and Terry are less than convincing dealing with a long ball as Voronin was snooping. The striker then goes down after getting a stray arm in the face.

  • 26'

England's best move of the game as Rooney and Gerrard linked up. Rooney crossed for Lennon who was free but his touch took him too wide to shoot so he crossed and Lampard couldn't stroke it home.

  • 25'

Terry can't connect with the corner and Voronin skips away from Gerrard as the Ukraine break but he ran the ball out of play.

  • 24'

Aaron Lennon is quick but he won't catch that loose ball. I don't know whay he needed to either because England have a corner.

  • 23'

Crouch wins another decent header but Rooney hadn't gambled on it sufficiently.

  • 21'

Neat build-up from the Ukraine but David James is out to claim a decent looking Slysur cross.

  • 20'

A very subdued England so far, and the Wembley crowd are quiet as a mouse.

  • 19'

Rooney wins a corner after more than a suspicion of handball. He looked like he took Terry's long ball down with his arm.

  • 18'

An awful ball from Cole - he gives it straight to Voronin and he's thankful to Lennon to win the ball back. Boooo!

  • 17'

Johnson again plays it risky, opting to turn two players in his own half. He is lucky to get a free kick in his favour too.

  • 16'

Crouch again makes himself a nuisance and from the knock down Rooney can't find Gerrard who was streaking through the middle.

  • 15'

Lampard touches off for Gerrard and his curling effort flashes a yard wide of the post.

  • 13'

Great combination between Crouch and Rooney. The Pompey man heads down and Rooney is cleaned out by Mykhalyk. Free kick in a good spot for England.

  • 12'

Lennon's second involvement is much better - he whips in a great cross that Chigrinsky nods away from danger.

  • 11'

Now Glenn Johnson is outwitted by Tymoschuk and the Ukraine have another free kick.

  • 10'

Barry is booked for pulling down Milevsky as he looked to profit from Lennon's poor touch.

  • 9'

Lennon gets his first involvement but it's a poor one - his touch allows Yarmash to nip in.

  • 8'

Gerrard is staying rigidly wide left so far and Lennon is hugging the touchline on the right side.

  • 7'

Milevsky slides into Ashley Cole and concedes a free kick.

  • 6'

Gerrard marauds down the left and swings in a cross that Rooney controls then launches towards goal by way of an overhead kick that sails narrowly over.

  • 5'

Shevchuk advances far enough to have a go on goal but Terry is in the way. Very little from England so far.

  • 4'

Valiyaev wins a foul off Lampard. Our commentator has just said he's got a "good touch for a big man". Oh dear.

  • 3'

Barry sprays a long ball looking for Crouch but Pyatov is out to claim.

  • 2'

No-one has beaten the Ukraine since Holland did back in May last year, and they've started brightly. The only thing bright about England's performance so far are their dazzling white shirts.

  • 1'
