Ronaldinho 'signs new deal'

Ronaldinho appears to have rejected a move to Besiktas to sign a new contract with Atletico Mineiro.

Ronaldinho wrote his name into the record books again with another career title.

Young: No Happy New Year
Vickery: What next for Ronaldinho?

The 33-year-old was out of contract at his Brazilian club and Besiktas had launched a fresh bid to lure him back to Europe after failing to tempt him to Turkey last summer.

Ronaldinho inspired Atletico to the Copa Libertadores title last year and was named South American Footballer of the Year a week ago by a clear margin.

As talks began to drag on in Istanbul it became less likely he would opt to leave him homeland again.

Atletico president Alexandre Kalil indicated their star man had signed a new contract when he tweeted: "The fans are annoying but the man loves them. Renewed!"

While he did not refer to Ronaldinho by name, it is widely believed that the 97-cap Brazil international and 2005 World Player of the Year has put pen to paper.
