Rivaldo joins Sao Caetano

Former World Player of the Year Rivaldo has signed for Brazilian club Sao Caetano on a free transfer.

Rivaldo: Heading to Africa
Rivaldo has signalled this move will not be his last

Rivaldo, 40, a free agent since terminating his contract with Angolan side Kabuscorp in November, will join the second-tier team until the end of the year.

“This is a big signing and will give us fantastic quality in midfield," Sao Caetano president Nairo Ferreira de Souza said. "He is also going to provide great leadership to the younger players. We are very satisfied with his signing."

Sao Caetano saw off interest from the former Brazil international’s first-ever side Santa Cruz - somewhere Rivaldo wants to eventually finish his career at.

“I will dedicate myself fully to do the best possible on the field, as I've done until now. I hope to be an example for many," Rivaldo said of the signing on his Twitter account. “To my critics, I would like to say that this is the result of my dedication.”

He added: “I would like to thank all of the Santa Cruz fans who campaigned for my return. Unfortunately this year it couldn't be, but if all goes to plan I will finish my career there next year."

Sao Caetano will unveil the ex-Barcelona and AC Milan man formally next Tuesday.
