Reading boss Steve Clarke nearing move to Fulham

Reading manager Steve Clarke is on the verge of taking over at Sky Bet Championship rivals Fulham, sources tell Press Association.

The former West Brom boss is believed to be keen to replace Kit Symons, who left Craven Cottage earlier this month, and the move is subject to personal terms being agreed.

Clarke took over at Reading 11 months ago and secured their second-tier status while also leading them to a first FA Cup semifinal for 88 years.

The 52-year-old has built on that promise by turning the Royals into the surprise package of the Championship season so far.

Reading are currently eighth, four places and as many points above Fulham, and only four points off the play-off places.

But it looks likely that Clarke will be aiming to mastermind the Cottagers returning to the top flight after a two-year absence instead of carrying on at the Madejski Stadium.
