Giorgos Karagounis has signed a new one-year deal at Fulham, the Craven Cottage club have announced.
Karagounis, 36, played 38 times for the Londoners last season after joining them on a free from Panathinaikos.
The new deal means the Greece international – his country’s record appearance-maker with 125 caps – is staying at a club he looked almost certain to leave just weeks ago.
Fulham had initially decided to release him, and Panathinaikos were reported to be interested in bringing him back to Greece.
But he will now spend a second season in West London, where he was runner-up in the Fulham supporters’ Player of the Season award last season.
