Schwarzer hints at Fulham exit

Mark Schwarzer has dropped another hint that he may be leaving Fulham in the summer by revealing there are no talks at present between himself and the club.

The Australia international emerged from his starring role in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Aston Villa to make it clear no agreement was in sight on a new deal.

"We're no closer with the contract," he said. "We'll do our best and see what happens in the summer. I have a contract until the end of the season and, without a doubt, I want to keep playing. I definitely want to play through to the next World Cup finals."

Schwarzer turned 40 six months ago and has played well over 200 games for the club since moving to Craven Cottage on a free transfer in May 2008.

The Cottagers' boss Martin Jol has been linked with other keepers and reportedly made a move for Jack Butland, the talented Birmingham youngster who has signed in a permanent deal for Stoke.

The former Middlesbrough man has shown what big gloves will need filling, though, and is now looking forward to playing a full role in Wednesday's West London showdown with Chelsea.

"I suppose we're happy with a point from Villa," he added. "We wanted to get to 40 as soon as possible and now we have a big derby coming up.

"We are at home and we felt we were unlucky when we drew 0-0 away to them. This game is a great event. It’s great for the supporters and we want to get one up on Chelsea. We want to get three more points and the fact it is against Chelsea is another incentive."

Jol added: "When we have 26 points, you say we need 30. Then we need 36 then we need 40. So it’s almost a cliché. But all those teams in the bottom half of the table would like to swap positions and that is a good situation for us to be in."
