Mario Balotelli celebrates with Instagram video after goal in Marseille win

Mario Balotelli scored a superb acrobatic volley in Marseille's 2-0 Ligue 1 win over Saint-Etienne on Sunday and celebrated by recording an Instagram Live video.

The Italy international's goal and Florian Thauvin's penalty gave Marseille a win that lifted them above their visitors and into fourth place in Ligue 1.

Balotelli held off Loic Perrin and twisted to volley home from a corner in the 12th minute, celebrating by grabbing a phone from a journalist in the Stade Velodrome to record the moment.

Thauvin struck the second from the spot nine minutes later following a handball by Mathieu Debuchy, sealing a straightforward win that put Marseille fourth on 44 points, one ahead of Saint-Etienne.

"I had given my telephone to an OM [Marseille] journalist," Balotelli said. "I told him to go behind the goal, that I was going to do a video if I scored. Each time I do something, it goes right around the world."

Balotelli's career has generated plenty of off-pitch headlines. In March 2011, Manchester City held a meeting to discuss the forward's disciplinary issues after he was caught throwing darts in the direction of youth team players from a first-floor window.

Later that year, in October, the bathroom at his rented mansion was wrecked when a friend set off dozens of fireworks, resulting in the fire brigade being called.

Less than two days after that incident, he scored in City's 6-1 thumping of Manchester United at Old Trafford, lifting his shirt to reveal a T-shirt bearing the slogan "Why always me?"

In the same year, it was reported that Balotelli had given £1,000 to a homeless person outside a Manchester casino after winning money during a night out.

The following year, he dropped in to Manchester's Xaverian College and asking to use their toilet before spending 20 minutes chatting to staff and students.

In 2014, during an unhappy spell at Liverpool, reports claimed he had threatened a woman who took photographs of his car as he visited his mother in Manchester, but police took no further action.

And last year, Nice coach Patrick Vieira warned that Balotelli "still has a lot of work to do" to get back to peak fitness after reports claimed he had arrived for preseason training 12 kilograms above his optimal weight.
