Lyon could turn to Raymond Domenech

Lyon are reportedly considering the appointment of former France coach Raymond Domenech as successor to Remi Garde next season.

Domenech - and vitamin supplements - helped France to the 2006 World Cup final
Domenech could be back in coaching with OL.

After Garde, 48, had announced on Tuesday he was ending his three-year spell with the seven-time French champions, president Jean-Michel Aulas said he wanted to appoint a coach who spoke French and "shares the same mentality as that with which OL has been made." Le Parisien said that coach could be Domenech.

Lyon-born Domenech, 62, who made more than 200 appearances for the club as a player in the 1970s and coached the team between 1989 and 1993, fits that bill.

Aulas, who declared in 2008 that Domenech would one day return to Lyon, is also reportedly unconcerned about the controversial manner in which his potential new coach's six-year tenure of the France national side ended in 2010.

Following Les Bleus' ignominious group-stage exit at the World Cup in South Africa, which came after the squad had gone on strike in protest at Nicolas Anelka's exclusion for having insulted Domenech, the coach was replaced by Laurent Blanc and has worked in the media ever since.

Aulas is also reportedly considering Sochaux coach Herve Renard, Jocelyn Gourvennec of Guingamp, Reims' Hubert Fournier, who played for Lyon between 1998 and 2000, and Saint-Etienne boss Christophe Galtier, who was assistant to Alain Perrin when he guided OL to the domestic double in 2007-08.

Juninho Pernambucano, 39, was part of that team, with the former Brazil international picking up his seventh successive Ligue 1 title.

Aulas told RMC he had contacted the ex-OL icon about potentially taking on a role at the club, explaining: "It's true he's one of the people I would like to associate with OL's new setup.

"Like Remi Garde, he's a great boy. He's got the image of having been successful at OL, and it's very nice to work with him, regardless of the fact that he's a great tactician. He has the profile to be part of the club's entourage."
