Blanc unfazed by FFP sanctions

Laurent Blanc has shrugged off fears financial fair play (FFP) sanctions could slow Paris Saint-Germain's rise to prominence, promising: "Paris will have a great team next year."

French media reported on Tuesday that UEFA, having adjudged PSG to have breached FFP regulations, will this week hit the club with a range of punishments aimed at restricting their summer transfer activity, forcing them to keep a tight rein on their wage bill and likely limiting the size of their Champions League squad.

While that means Blanc's options will be more limited than he might have expected next season, the former Bordeaux and France coach told media ahead of Wednesday's Ligue 1 encounter with Rennes that PSG will still be a force to be reckoned with in 2014-15.

He said: "The sanctions have not been confirmed. But regardless of that, Paris will have a great team next year. They'll have to be taken into account, precisely target things, be smart.

"When I see that we will have the opportunity to recruit with certain means, we'll be able to find good players. And don't forget that we already have very, very good players. I think we can manage to improve this team."

Though they were knocked out of the Champions League at the quarterfinal stage for a second successive season, under Blanc PSG are set to better the achievements of the 2012-13 campaign under Carlo Ancelotti having already won the Coupe de la Ligue and requiring just a single win from their remaining three games to defend their Ligue 1 crown.

Following last summer's arrivals of Edinson Cavani, Marquinhos and Lucas Digne, Yohan Cabaye was the sole addition to Blanc's squad in January, and a number of new recruits would have been expected to arrive at the Parc des Princes as the club's ambitious Qatari owners continue working towards their aim of making PSG a global football superpower.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, PSG midfielder Thiago Motta said he would like no fewer than six new players, including France international and long-time PSG target Paul Pogba, to arrive during the upcoming transfer window.

"We need reinforcements, one in each line at least," the Italy international said. "I would like to see players like [David] Luiz, [Giorgio] Chiellini, [Andrea] Pirlo, [Paul] Pogba, [Miralem] Pjanic and Pedro to strengthen us psychologically and technically for this project.

"We could have done better this season. Chelsea seemed to be better prepared, also psychologically, but we could have won the game, tactically. That elimination just proves that we're lacking something on a psychological level."

Thiago Motta believes they already have a player similar to Pirlo in their team with Marco Verratti, a player he would be more than happy partnering at the World Cup this summer. "He's unique, somebody you've got to take on face value," he added. "I can play with Marco at PSG with my eyes closed, but there are other great players in the national team, like [Daniele] De Rossi."
