Lucas doesn't regret PSG transfer

Lucas has insisted he does "not regret coming to Paris at all" and hailed Paris Saint-Germain teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic as "one of the best three strikers in the world."

• Johnson: Motta and Ibrahimovic lead gritty PSG

Lucas, 21, has endured a tough introduction to European football since completing his 42 million euro move from Sao Paulo in January 2013. The Brazil international's inconsistent form has cost him his place in the national team, while he has made only 14 starts for his club this season.

However, the youngster told footmercato.net he has no qualms about having swapped his home town for the French capital.

"I don't regret coming. I'm very happy here, at a big club, in a wonderful city. The public has quickly taken to me, which I'm very happy about and which helps me and motivates me enormously," said the youngster, who has recently seen Ezequiel Lavezzi come into form and move ahead of him in the race for a place in Laurent Blanc's starting XI.

"It's a great experience being here. I play and I live in Europe. I'm fulfilling my dream of playing in the prestigious Champions League. I'm playing in a big club with great players. I'm growing, both personally and professionally. So I don't regret coming to Paris at all.

"The competition for places is good, healthy. There are quality players, so all of that is good for PSG. I am doing my best in training, in games, to be able to best seize the opportunities I am given. Lavezzi and Cavani are more experienced. They are used to European football. I've just arrived. I'm still very young. I have to earn my place. What counts is that everyone pulls in the same direction."

Lucas has done that with eight assists this season, the third-highest individual tally in the division. His eye for a final pass and unerring set-piece delivery have teed up four league goals for Ibrahimovic alone, helping the Swede establish himself as the French top-flight's leading scorer.

"For me, there is no doubt Zlatan is among the best three strikers in the world, in terms of his qualities, the number of goals he scores and his importance within the PSG team," Lucas said. "He's impressive. He manages to ally physical strength with a refined technique. He's a fundamental player for our team. It's a pleasure and an honour to be his teammate and friend."
