Silva hails in-form Zlatan Ibrahimovic

PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes that the Ligue 1 title is now theirs to lose.

Thiago Silva feels Zlatan Ibrahimovic is enjoying "the best season of his career" after the Paris Saint-Germain striker became the French champions' all-time top scorer in a single Ligue 1 season.

• Johnson: Another record for Ibrahimovic in PSG's procession

Ibrahimovic, 32, struck twice in his team's 2-0 victory over Saint-Etienne on Sunday to move onto 25 goals for the league campaign. It also took him to 40 goals in as many games in all competitions this season, easing him beyond the club record of Carlos Bianchi, set in 1977-78.

With at least 12 matches still to play this season, Ibrahimovic could yet improve his already impressive stats, and Silva told media the Sweden international is in the form of his life.

"It's the best season of his career," the Brazil and PSG captain said in Le Parisien. "But it's also because the team is playing well with a very strong midfield, which allows him to best express his qualities."

The Ibrahimovic-inspired win means PSG remain eight points clear of second-placed Monaco in the table with nine league games remaining. Despite entering the club's history books, Ibrahimovic remained focused on collective rather than individual success.

"The important thing is to win, my goals are just a bonus," the former AC Milan forward, who has found the back of the net 75 times and provided 27 assists in 86 competitive appearances for PSG, said. "I'm just doing my job. The record is important for you. Not me."
