St Etienne move into third place

St Etienne moved up into third in Ligue 1 on Saturday night with a 2-0 win over Bastia.

Brandao opened the scoring after 33 minutes and a Fethi Harek own goal sealed the win in the last minute.

On Brando's goal, Yohan Mollo supplied the corner to the far post and the Brazilian was left completely unmarked to fire his team ahead.

Harek attempted to pass back to Leca, but could only watch on as he misjudged it and the ball slowly rolled over the line.

The victory moved St Etienne into the final Champions League place on goal difference, with Lille, now in fourth, set to play Lyon on Sunday.

Marseille maintained their push for European football with a 1-0 win over Lorient.

Andre-Pierre Gignac's goal with just eight minutes to play handed all three points to L'OM, who extended their unbeaten league run to five games.

Gignac was on hand to roll the ball home when Raphael Guerreiro made a mess of a clearance.

Bordeaux enjoyed a welcome return to winning ways on Saturday evening as Henri Saivet's late header handed Les Girondins a 2-1 victory over struggling Evian at the Stade Chaban-Delmas.

Kevin Berigaud looked to have earned the visitors a point in the 73rd minute when he cancelled out Julien Faubert's 52nd-minute opener, but Saivet popped up eight minutes from time to nick all three points for the hosts.

The result lifted Francis Gillot's side, who had lost four of their previous five games, up to eighth in the Ligue 1 standings, and left Pascal Dupraz's side just one place outside the relegation zone.

Montpellier remain unbeaten in Ligue 1 this year after a 2-0 win over rock-bottom Ajaccio.

Anthony Mounier and Remy Cabella struck in the second half to extend Montpellier's unbeaten run in the league to eight games.

Sochaux scored an 88th-minute equaliser as they twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at relegation rivals Valenciennes on Saturday.

Florian Marange's late header came just two minutes after Majeed Waris' second goal and denied the hosts a win which would have taken them out of the bottom three.

Waris opened the scoring with a penalty in the 51st minute, with Sebastien Corchia getting the visitors' first leveller three minutes later.

Mustapha Yatabare's stoppage-time goal earned Guingamp a 1-0 win, their first league victory in 11 attempts at the expense of Nice.
