Lyon celebrate Bafetimbi Gomis' goal, which took them through against Marseille.

Lyon beat Marseille 2-1 to advance to the Coupe de la Ligue semi-finals with goals from Yoann Gourcuff and Bafetimbi Gomis.

The opener came when Clement Grenier's 30-yard free-kick bounced awkwardly in front of keeper Steve Mandanda. He could only parry and Gourcuff followed up to poke the ball home from close range.

It remained 1-0 at half-time, though Marseille were furious that Saber Khalifa was penalised for a foul on defender Samuel Umtiti before the striker was himself brought down in the penalty area by keeper Anthony Lopes.

Lyon were dominant, though, and finally got their reward in the 74th minute when Alexandre Lacazette exchanged passes with Gourcuff and squared to give Gomis a tap-in.

Marseille were handed a last-minute lifeline when Jimmy Briand's handball was spotted by the officials and substitute Andre-Pierre Gignac converted the penalty, but Lyon held on as Gomes brilliantly saved Benjamin Mendy's stoppage-time header.

Earlier, Serge Gakpe settled a thrilling tie in Nantes' favour as they edged out Nice 4-3.

Didier Digard put Nice ahead but Filip Djordjevic's brace early in the second half made it 2-1 to the hosts.

Thimothee Kolodziejczak levelled for Nice and, after Oswaldo Vizcarrondo's 78th-minute strike restored Nantes' lead, another equaliser from Dario Cvitanich looked to have taken the tie to extra time.

But Gakpe had other ideas and scored three minutes from the end to seal Nantes' progress. Ligue 2 Troyes claimed the top-flight scalp of Evian in the night's other game.

Benjamin Nivet and Ghislain Ghimbert put Troyes two goals to the good by half-time and though Clarck Nsikulu pulled a goal back, Jimmy Cabot struck in injury time to seal a 3-1 win for the underdogs.

Paris St Germain complete the semi-final line-up after beating Bordeaux 3-1 on Tuesday.
