Bordeaux have signed unattached striker Guillaume Hoarau for the remainder of the Ligue 1 season.
Hoarau, 29, now a free agent, won five caps for France during four-and-a-half years with Paris Saint-Germain and most recently played for Chinese club Dalian Aerbin. He has signed a six-month contract with Les Girondins.
Club president Jean-Louis Triaud hinted, at a news conference to unveil the new signing, that the short contract was down to difficulties in matching Hoarau's wages in the Chinese Super League.
“We discussed it together,” he said. “The talks were quick -- very quick. We agreed on a six-month contract.
“It is not that we do not want to keep him longer, but Guillaume made efforts to come here.
“It is not worth going into detail, but you can understand what he would not have accepted to play for us. It is possible that, in June, we will talk again.”
