Edinson Cavani may miss Lille clash

Edinson Cavani may miss Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 clash against Lille on Sunday after returning to Uruguay for personal reasons.

Edinson Cavani celebrates his goal for PSG.
The reasons for Cavani's return to Uruguay are not known.

• Johnson: Cavani brilliance

Cavani, 26, scored twice as PSG defeated holders Saint-Etienne 2-1 in the Coupe de la Ligue on Wednesday, then headed to Le Bourget airport, in the north of the French capital, to board a private jet to his homeland.

The reasons for his return to Montevideo are not known, although reports in the Uruguayan media have speculated that Cavani, who divorced the mother of his two children earlier this year, is set to get married.

Coach Laurent Blanc and the PSG board gave their permission for the striker, who has scored 18 times in 23 appearances in all competitions this season, to make the trip.

The former Napoli forward reportedly plans to return to France for the match against third-placed Lille at the Parc des Princes, but that is unconfirmed. Victory for PSG would ensure that they end the first half of the season at the top of the table.

Speaking after the cup match, Cavani's teammate Blaise Matuidi praised his contribution to the team, saying: "Cavani is someone who knows where the goal is.

"He is also someone who defends and works hard. This is a great striker, world class, like Zlatan [Ibrahimovic], and we are fortunate to have both players."
