Landreau eyes retirement, record nears

Mickael Landreau has raised the prospect of retirement as he closes in on Ligue 1's all-time appearance record.

Landreau, 34, is just six games shy of equalling Jean-Luc Ettori's mark of 602 matches in France's top flight, and should pass that mark with Bastia this season.

Though he has been installed as France's third-choice goalkeeper by coach Didier Deschamps, and only missed out Les Bleus' recent internationals due to injury, the former Lille goalkeeper told Le Parisien he may hang up his gloves this summer.

"I'm proud of what I have done," Landreau, who made his L1 debut at 17, said. "I always fully commit myself. And I refuse to change anything. I only think about tomorrow. Next season, I will perhaps no longer be a footballer.

"I will live every single second of what I have left to live on the pitch. But I'm not going to close the door now. To say that I'll stop in May to then change my mind afterwards would be ridiculous. So, perhaps this is my last season. Perhaps."
