Zlatan Ibrahimovic compared to Cantona

Former Fance coach Raymond Domenech believes Zlatan Ibrahimovic's importance to Paris Saint-Germain to comparable to that of Eric Cantona at Manchester United in his heyday.

The arrival of charismatic Frenchman Cantona at Old Trafford in 1992 was the catalyst for United's first English title in 25 years and laid the foundations for the club to dominate the Premier League.

Ibrahimovic, 31, joined PSG in summer 2012 and was top scorer in his first season as he led the club to the Ligue 1 crown for the first time since 1994.

Domenech, 61, told Ma Chaine Sport that though the Swede's unique talent and physique did pose coaches and team-mates a dilemma, Ibrahimovic, who added a year to his initial three-year deal at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, bears many of the hallmarks of the United legend.

"The problem is knowing how to play in the same team as Zlatan, who - for me - is neither a centre-forward nor a midfielder. He's an assister-goalscorer, who is there whenever something decisive happens.

“He makes me think of Cantona. You never knew in which position he had to be played, but he was indispensable to Manchester United. Zlatan's a bit in the same situation. It's up to the others to adapt to him."
