Mickael Landreau has revealed he rejected the chance to join Inter Milan as he was unveiled at his new club Bastia on Monday.
Landreau, 33, had his contract cancelled by Lille earlier this month and chose to stay in Ligue 1 with mid-table Bastia.
The France international, who has 11 caps, suggested the offer of regular first team football influenced his decision.
He told the club's official website: "I am happy to wear the Bastia colours. I was touched by the warm welcome at the airport.
"I could have joined Bologna or Inter Milan. My goals in life are more the things that can make me grow as an athlete and a man. That is my motivation."
He could make his debut for Bastia in the French Cup away at third division side Bastia CA on Saturday.
