LFP suspends goal-line technology in France after issues

Neymar celebrates after scoring in PSG's Coupe de la Ligue win against Amiens.
PSG won on Wednesday despite the failure of goal-line technology.

France has suspended the use of goal-line technology in Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Coupe de la Ligue, the Ligue de Football Professionnel announced on Thursday.

The move comes as a result of the system failing to signal two goals in the Coupe de la Ligue on Wednesday,

"Last night unfortunately the GLT [goal-line technology] experienced two serious malfunctions in the Amiens-PSG match -- the GLT didn't make the referee's watch vibrate and it was the video assistant who awarded the goal -- and a second incident in Angers-Montpellier where the GLT wrongly caused the referee's watch to vibrate," LFP director general Didier Quillot said.

The suspension comes after the LFP had already warned GoalControl, the company in charge of the system, about issues last month.

"These two irregularities are unacceptable, especially as they occur just after we put GoalControl on notice," Quillot said.

GoalControl was used at the 2014 World Cup, but the Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A all use Hawk-Eye's technology.
